EXHIBITION
EXHIBITION
On the 5th of July, local residents of Southwark council took part in Stage Gallery’s collaborative mural workshop. This workshop was facilitated by community co-ordinator Ayiesha Sankoh & artist Lulu Williams. Each participant was asked to bring an object that they felt represented themselves and/or their community. Participants discussed the colours, textures, shapes & memories of each object: choosing these details to depict in the mural. The participants used multi-media techniques such as water balloons, paint rollers & squeegees to work with materials such as ink, paint, and oil pastel, resulting in this large-scale mural.
This workshop was for members of Southwark council to have a fun day expressing themselves. No prior artistic experience was required - beginners were encouraged! The participants used a range of materials such as glitter, feathers, paint, pastels & pens to bring this work life!

About the Artists
Lulu Williams will be the facilitating artist for Stage Gallery’s mural on the 5th of July alongside Ayiesha Sankoh !
Lulu will be guiding participants through the composition of the workshop, helping everyone to think about shapes, colours and mark making. She will then help structure the physical making of the mural in the second half of the day!
Lulu Williams is an artist practicing in South East London. Her multidisciplinary practice covers zines, video and performance installation, concerned in reimagining popular culture figures and decoding the spectacle.
Lulu received her BA in Fine Art from Westminster University in 2020 and since then, her publications have been distributed internationally across Japan, Los Angeles and Europe via Antenne Books. She has also collaborated with the Martin Parr bookshop and PageMasters.
Lulu’s compositional practice in self publishing and large scale installation makes her a wonderful artist to aid the creative direction of the mural. She will be helping participants to generate ideas and drawings to stitch together the artwork.
Ayiesha Sankoh will be facilitating Stage Gallery’s community mural alongside Lulu Williams on the 5th of July !
Ayiesha Sankoh is Stage Gallery’s fantastic Event & Community Coordinator, who you’ve been introduced to via her wonderful interview with Ellen Angus.
Driven by her deep connection to sound and culture, Ayiesha’s artistic ventures—whether in digital illustration or mixing—are rooted in championing underrepresented communities.
Ayiesha will be making sure everyone is comfortable & confident in sharing ideas during the creation of the mural. Ayiesha will be prompting discussion points, leading conversations around shape & colour, working 1 on 1 & in groups during mark making & helping generating inspiration !
By day, Ayiesha works as a Label Assistant at Rhythm Section International; by night, she hosts ‘Kelly Avenue’ on Voices Radio, where she explore leftfield sounds and experimental happenings, always keeping a little SE15 at the heart of her practice. Ayiesha will also be the creator of the playlist to which we make the mural too !
